Description
Santo Domingo Pueblo (Kewa) Depression Era necklace, circa 1930s. These necklaces were mostly made from found materials such as discarded plastics, combs, old plastic handled serveware and utensils as well as gypsum from a nearby mine. the turquoise almost always came from the Cerrillos turquoise mine which was not too far away. The bird pendant is quite distinctive with his center eye and polka dot trim.
Materials: red and white plastic, natural Cerrillos turquoise, teeth from a comb and white seed beads.
