Description
This multi-stone, 3-strand handmade bead necklace by Santo Domingo Pueblo artist Rudy Coriz is very traditional and beautifully made. It has turquoise beads at the bottom of each strand that represent corn kernels; and it’s finished in strong braided waxed cord ties.
Keep in mind that when Santo Domingo artists craft these beads they do not use any templates; it’s just hand/mind coordination. They begin by cutting their material into small squares and then drill a hole into the center of each one. They temporarily string these pieces and shape each one, polish them and make them into their finished necklace. It’s huge, time consuming and dusty work. Rudy is a master of this process and a very nice guy!
