Kewa Green Turquoise Chiclet Necklace

Kewa (Santo Domingo Pueblo, NM) handmade green turquoise “chiclets” necklace with gold-filled findings (cones, beads and wire). Wikipedia states that Gold-fill is a type of jewelry material that consists of a layer of gold bonded to a base metal, typically brass.”

Long ago, someone used the term “chiclets” to describe these square beads made at the Kewa Pueblo and it has stuck! A green turquoise bead separates each chiclet which allows the necklace to hang nicely.

The necklace was probably made in the 1990s or before and the string has stretched a bit. It actually allows the necklace to hang freely.
