Description
This is traditional work in a vintage piece: an overlay mosaic stone and shell pendant. Mary individually cut and polished all of the pieces and laid them out in the desired design. Then she adhered them on top of a purple pectin shell using a Pueblo-made homemade “glue” (which seemingly lasts forever). She used a strip of sterling silver on the front to make part of the design and on the back to form a loop which she attached to the back of the shell thereby creating
a pendant.
Born in 1936, Mary is now in here 80s.
As far as the design, the rectangular spondylus set in the turquoise might represent a window at Chaco Canyon. Similar pieces date back 1,000 years to Chaco Canyon and other Southwestern sites.
