This remarkable and rare Hopi carving by Jimmie Koots was collected for the premier exhibition of the Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles, in the early 1960s. It remained in the collection of the founders until recently; and subsequently was passed down in the family. While famous for his clown carvings, Koots’ sculpture evokes a familial bond filled with reverence for creation on all levels and has incredible character. It is painted in his typical color palette of white, shades of grey and black.
